About House Proud

Your home should support you.

We're Maddie and Erica, the people behind House Proud.

About House Proud

We believe the best homes aren't the ones that look like they came straight out of a catalog. They're the ones that tell you something about the people who live there.

House Proud brings together our backgrounds in interior design, education, disability inclusion, neurodiversity, and organization with a shared love of old homes, traditional design, vintage finds, and the thrill of discovering something incredible secondhand.

Our goal is simple: to help people create homes that are beautiful, functional, personal, and designed around the way they actually live.

Meet Maddie

Maddie has moved more than 20 times, calling Boston, New York City, Los Angeles, and Minneapolis home along the way. Each move taught her something about creating a sense of home, from making a tiny apartment work to starting over in a new city and making an unfamiliar space feel like her own.

With a background in graphic and interior design, Maddie has always been drawn to how color, furniture, art, lighting, architecture, and the objects we collect shape a space. While living in Los Angeles, she worked in residential interior design, building a foundation in traditional design principles like scale, proportion, balance, space planning, and sourcing. Her own style is more personal: mixing old and new, high and low, and finding pieces through thrift stores, estate sales, antique shops, and unexpected places.

After losing several close family members, Maddie also understands how emotional our belongings can become. Her experience sorting, organizing, preserving, and letting go of the things they left behind shaped her thoughtful approach to helping others navigate their own belongings. She believes the things we keep aren’t just objects. They carry stories, memories, relationships, and history.

Meet Erica

Erica brings a background in education and years of experience working with neurodivergent students.

As a college instructor working with students on the autism spectrum, she has spent much of her career understanding how differently people process information, establish routines, learn new systems, and navigate their environments.

Erica is also neurodivergent herself and has spent years developing creative ways to organize her own home and everyday life. She understands that the organizational system that looks perfect in a photograph isn't necessarily the one you'll actually use.

Sometimes the best system is the unconventional one.

She brings that same practical thinking to the way she approaches a home. Erica loves finding unexpected secondhand pieces, figuring out how to give something old a new purpose, and creating systems that feel natural instead of overly complicated.

Her approach is patient, creative, and centered on finding solutions that make sense for the individual rather than expecting someone to adapt to another person's idea of how a home is supposed to function.

Our Approach

We love beautiful interiors. We love a well-designed room, good lighting, great furniture, old houses, interesting art, and the details that make a space feel finished.

But we also believe good interior design has to work in real life.

A beautiful basket isn't useful if you forget everything that's inside it. A perfectly styled kitchen isn't successful if you can't comfortably use it. And an expensive piece of furniture isn't automatically more special than the $20 vintage piece you found at an estate sale and couldn't stop thinking about.

That's why House Proud sits at the intersection of interior design, organization, accessibility, and real life.

We love working with what you already own, hunting for secondhand treasures, rearranging rooms, finding creative storage solutions, incorporating meaningful objects, and thoughtfully adding new pieces where they're actually needed.

We aren't interested in making every home look the same.

We want to know what you collect. What you inherited. What you can't seem to find a place for. What isn't working. What you absolutely refuse to get rid of. And what you want your home to feel like when you walk through the door.

Then we help you build a space around that.

Your home should support you, reflect you, and feel unmistakably yours.

That's what it means to be House Proud.
